10 Healthy Swaps Inspired by those "Eat This, Not That" books, my Dad asked me to write my own list. Specifically, he wanted me to suggest 10 healthy swaps he could implement at home or at a restaurant. Well, here they are!
- Order brown rice instead of white rice.
- Pack carrots instead of chips in your lunch.
- Choose whole-wheat bread instead of white bread (or brown rice tortillas for GF). (Here's a great blog post on how to shop and find healthy breads.)
- Use low-fat or fat-free (plain, unsweetened) vegan yogurt instead of mayonnaise (or try hummus on your sandwich).
- Order a PLATE of steamed vegetables instead of a side of fries.
- Replace half the pasta with vegetables. (Yes! you can eat pasta and lose weight!).
- Order sorbet instead of ice cream. Or make my fat-free banana ice cream at home.
- Use fruit to sweeten your oatmeal or cereal — not sugar.
- Eat a salad before your meal. No negotiating!
- Have a drink or dessert. Not both.
