I've been meaning to write about this for a couple of months now but life has just been so interesting ... :)
For women who are past the menopause one of the most frustrating things that happens is the weight gain, especially around the middle, primarily the waist, which we all know by now is supposedly unhealthy. You also gain weight more easily and it is harder to shift. Even Dr. McDougall talks about it in his Weight Loss book.
So as usual I've been my own lab rat and have been experimenting with different vegan options for awhile now. And I think I have finally found an eating plan that allows me to eat pretty much whatever (vegan) I want (bearing in my my eating habits are stellar health-wise) and lose weight. It is slow but I feel that if I can lose the weight I need to in order to be healthy I can live with slow.
It is generally known as the 5:2 dietary eating plan, or Intermittent Fasting. No, you don't fast totally, but you do have to cut your calories down to 500 (for women) and 600 (for men) two non-consecutive days a week. The other five days you just eat healthily. I was going to say whatever you want, but most people's diets in the West are pretty diabolical. As long as you follow the eating plan I've outlined on the other pages of this site, you will be doing better than most of the Western world and no doubt be healthier.
Since May I've lost 8 lbs (more or less on some days) and am generally keeping it off. I think it is the 2nd fasting day a week that keeps it off, but that's just my opinion based on my own results. As long as I can see some results I'll continue to do this. On the 2 days I admit that I feel some anxiety, I suppose you could call it. My body and mind think I am starving it, but I'm really not. I just tell myself that tomorrow I can eat pretty much what I want and not worry too much about it. So it is easier for me than trying to follow 1200 calories a day every day.
If you want to know more just Google 5:2 and you'll find their official website.
